A global gathering for democracy in the age of disinformation
In a consequential year for peacebuilding and conflict across the world, Words Matter! 2025 will bring together politicians, religious leaders, community advocates and business leaders in an historic center of diplomacy and dialogue to explore how and why we must rebuild trust in institutions to ultimately protect democracy and democratic values.
In the second annual conference, Words Matter! 2025 will examine our collective responsibility to challenge disinformation and the importance of re-building trust in a fractured world, and identify where responsibility lies across government, business and religion – as well as the next generation.
Words Matter! 2025 will take place at Oslo Kongressenter Folkets Hus in Oslo, Norway, on 1 July 2025.
Objectives of Words Matter! 2025
Words Matter! 2025 will tackle some of the most timely and important issues facing democratic societies:
1. Examine the threat of disinformation in 2025
Global leaders explore how disinformation is used to erode democratic values and fuels extremism, and how to rebuild trust.
2. Foster dialogue between religious leaders and tech innovators to find solutions
Religious leaders and tech innovators discuss how disinformation can fuel conflict between communities and explore how religious institutions and social media platforms can work together to foster dialogue and reconciliation to ultimately rebuild trust.
3. Empower and learn from the next generation
Youth representatives discuss their hope for the future and talk about solutions in tackling the spread of misinformation in the future.
4. Explore the complexity of protecting free speech and the existential threat of AI
Experts discuss the role and responsibility of business in protecting free speech but tackling hate speech, as well exploring the existential threat of AI to democracy.
