Democracy and peace is under pressure from polarisation, disinformation, declining trust, and authoritarian regimes. Young people and the digital generation are mobilising for change and have the ambition and tools to make a difference but they need the platform and reach to turn dialogue into impact. Words Matter! 2026 will create a space for intergenerational, cross industry dialogue that leads to concrete actions for strengthening democracy, co-operation and dialogue.

Words Matter! 2026 will take place at the Oslo Kongressenter Folkets Hus in Oslo, Norway, on 28 April 2026. Registration is free and opens on 2 February 2026.

Conference theme & objectives

Dialogue in action: How to rebuild a fractured world

This year’s conference will focus on the theme of ‘Dialogue in action: How to rebuild a fractured world’, with discussions focusing on:

1. Strengthening global governance in an age of transition

Young activists and youth leaders are the driving change across the world, from Kenya to Nepal, and we will hear from those who commit themselves to change and renewal, ensuring accountability and implementing justice and the policy reform that is required for change.

2. Young voices building a new tomorrow

Religious leaders and tech innovators discuss how disinformation can fuel conflict between communities and explore how religious institutions and social media platforms can work together to foster dialogue and reconciliation to ultimately rebuild trust.

3. The role of religious leaders in rebuilding and reconciliation

Faith leaders will examine their responsibility to encourage and facilitate interfaith collaboration to create new pathways for peace, harmony and co-operation; they will explore the role of religion and spirituality in rebuilding and healing following conflicts.
