Who We Are

The Oslo Center is an independent non-profit organization working in the fields of democratization and democratic governance.

We are passionate about democratic values that contribute to strong and stable societies. Here, at the Oslo Center, we share the belief in an inclusive and representative democracy where people are at the center, with the rights and capability to influence their own communities.

Developing democracies is a long-lasting and meaningful journey, and we are honored to continuously support people working to make their own country more democratic.

Over the last 15 years, the Oslo Center successfully implemented a variety of projects and became a forum for dialogue between peer democracy assistance organizations, policy decision-makers, and political thinkers.
Vision
We envision a world where democratic systems are responsive to citizen needs, respecting their
meaningful and inclusive participation, human rights, and human dignity.
Mission
To promote and enhance democratic practices by strengthening good governance,
political institutions, and civic spaces.
Our Approach
Similar to other peer organizations, the Oslo Center believes in a method that ensures local ownership when collaborating with our partners. After the support is requested, we start this process by carefully listening and comprehending their main needs.

At the Oslo Center, we also strive to maintain an extensive comprehension of the countries’ political, cultural, historical, social, and economic backgrounds because this context allows us to offer more valuable help.

For us, the process is as important as the outcome. The Oslo Center’s method considers the timing of our partners and is their rhythm and necessities that settle the pace of the collaboration. Equality is the basis of these relationships, we have profound respect for our partners, and their perceptions and voices matter in each step of the cooperation. We are here to help them to have the best democratization journey possible.

As part of our approach, we share our technical knowledge, democratic standards, and experiences. Still, we consent to diverse opinions and acknowledge the right of our partners to draw their own conclusions, guarantying their empowerment and ownership of the projects.
