Press Release: Partnership Established between The Oslo Center and Bjørknes University College

On June 1st, The Oslo Center and Bjørknes University College established a cooperation agreement. Both institutions work on international issues tied to democracy, good governance and human rights, and we feel that a partnership will drive both thematic and administrative synergy, says Kjell Magne Bondevik, who founded the Oslo Center 12 years ago along with Einar Steensnæs, and Sveinung Lunde, Executive Director of Bjørknes University College.

The Oslo Center will continue as an independent foundation, but will be in close cooperation with Bjørknes. In addition to their own projects, the Oslo Center can take on non-profit projects on behalf of Bjørknes University College. Furthermore, the Oslo Center can utilize the relevant expertise among the school’s faculty and Oslo Analytica, an international research and consultancy center established under Bjørknes. The University College can benefit from the experience and knowledge anchored in the many projects run by the Oslo Center.

In this way, we will foster synergies among the academic environment at Bjørknes University College and the more practical, executive environment at the Oslo Center, says Lunde.

The partnership will also provide synergies of an administrative character. The Oslo Center will move from their offices in Øvre Slottsgt. in downtown Oslo to the Bjørkens University College campus in Lovisenberggt. during the fall. A co-location will ensure close cooperation and efficiency, and contribute to administrative synergies and cost savings.

Mr. Bondevik will also move from the role of President of the Oslo Center to Executive Chairman, continuing with a part-time schedule (60%).

After turning 70, I see this as a natural way of scaling down my responsibility as well as an opportunity to remain engaged in the international work for peace, democracy and human rights, says Bondevik.

We look forward to a fruitful partnership to the benefit of both institutions and the services we provide, says Bondevik and Lunde.

The partnership was presented at the Oslo Center Board of Trustees meeting on June 7, 2018.
